Growing hops at ISU’s Horticulture Research Farm

DSCN1803[1]

A one-acre hop project is underway at the Horticulture Research Farm. The project is led by Dr. Diana Cochran (Assistant Professor and Fruit Extension Specialist) and will undergo several phases before hop plants are ready to go into the ground. The initial step, recently completed, involved setting 100 black locust poles in the ground. The next phase will be to construct the trellis system and is slated to be finished spring 2015, just in time to plant hops.
