ALUM OF THE MONTH: ZACK SARGENT, INVENTORY MANAGER AT FIORE NURSERY AND LANDSCAPE SUPPLY

Zack Sargent graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Horticulture with a minor in entrepreneurial studies in Fall of 2012. Zack is from is from Wauconda, IL.

Zack’s major job responsibilities include grading, sizing, and labeling all plant material that comes to their yard. That also includes coordinating plant health care needs to ensure their material remains in top quality health until it is sold.  He does this by managing pests, diseases, fertilizing, and watering the plants. When they are not receiving new material he assists with tagging and securing product from their vendors in the field.

We asked Zack what he likes most about his job. “I enjoy being able to work with plants everyday. I have a hands on job where I can assist people to choose the best plant material for each situation. We bring in a diverse plant palette to ensure our customers have the everyday plants along with unique specimens to complete their jobs.”

Following is the advice Zack offers to current students: Experience. Gather up all the experiences you can. Take everything you learn in class and apply it in a hands-on way with internships, club activities, and projects. Learn from those around you and get your hands dirty!
