Teaching Responsibilities

HORT 2810 – Landscape Graphics
An introduction to both hand rendering and computer skills for landscape graphics. We cover plan view, elevation and perspective drawings in an intensive studio format.

HORT 2910B – Horticulture Professional Development – Landscape Competition
Every year over Spring Break, students participate at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition. College students from across the nation showcase their skills in landscaping, horticulture, irrigation and more. The largest Horticulture job fair provides a chance to engage with industry professionals from around the country, and a day full of educational sessions sharpens students’ knowledge and expertise. This course prepares students for the event.

HORT 3800 – Principles of Garden Composition
This lecture course covers the functional and aesthetic aspects of landscape planning from the perspective of informed design decisions.  We emphasize spatial design and planting combinations along with hardscape and structural components. This course equips students to know what an outdoor space needs and why it needs it.

HORT 3810 – Beginning Garden Composition Studio
A hands-on introduction to the landscape design process, this intensive studio course implements the principles of landscape design, concept development and graphic communication. Students work with local clients and locations on campus to create practical designs.

HORT 4440 – Landscape Construction Management
This lab and lecture course covers the principles and practices of residential landscape construction. The course encompasses project management, landscape estimating and landscape materials. Hands-on labs include site field trips and project installation.

HORT 4810 – Advanced Garden Composition Studio
This studio course prepares students to develop residential landscape designs using design principles and the design process.  Projects encompass site analysis, concept development, preliminary and final design, budget and estimating, and hand and computer graphic presentation techniques. We work with clients on team and individual projects to ensure a well-rounded experience for the students.
