Make Plans to Attend the Horticulture Field Day

Join Iowa Public Radio for a field day at the ISU Horticulture Research Station on Saturday, September 29th from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.  We’ll have farm tours, apple sorting demos, kid’s games, high tunnel tours, and a farmer’s market.  You’ll have a chance to meet and ask YOUR horticulture questions of Charity Nebbe, host of Talk of Iowa, and members of the “Hort Gang” including Richard Jauron, Adam Thoms, Jeff Iles, Cindy Haynes, Ajay Nair, Diana Cochran, and Nick Christians.

Horticulture field research has been active at Iowa State University since the beginning of the institution, and the horticulture research station was moved to this beautiful 235 acre site north of campus in 1967.  The station has extensive horticultural plantings and projects, including apple orchards, vineyards, demonstration home gardens, vegetables, fruit, hops yards, turfgrass and ornamentals.  The farm has active research related to turtles, honeybees, wasps and tree swallows.  Scientists from horticulture, forestry, botany, ecology, plant pathology, entomology and natural resources are active at the station…and this Saturday, YOU get to see it all!

The event is family friendly and free and open to the public.
