Iowa State University Horticulture students attend 2025 National Collegiate Landscape Competition

Iowa State University Horticulture students challenged themselves over spring break at the 2025 National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC) at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Nine participants in the three-day event demonstrated their skills in 30 real-world competitive events and networked with top industry companies as well as dozens of the biggest industry manufacturers and suppliers. The team from Iowa State was among the more than 700 top landscape and horticulture students from two- and four-year colleges across the country.

Our students represented Iowa State well, with 9 top 20 places in the competitions. Students competed in many different plant ID, estimating, installation, machinery operations, and safety competitions. Tony Krebs placed in the top 7% of all 727 students.

Our team finished strong in the design categories, with Ben Moss on the podium for a 3rd place score in Exterior Landscape Design and Abby Knight earning 6th place in 3D Exterior Landscape Design.

Additionally, Ben Moss’s t-shirt design was selected for the entire event.
