Horticulture Alumna Mira (Emma) Adamek Named Young Alum of the Month

Mira (Emma) Adamek

Mira (Emma) Adamek, a 2023 Iowa State University graduate in horticulture with an emphasis in turfgrass management, has been recognized as CALS Young Alum of the Month. Currently a member of the field crew at Gillette Stadium, Adamek credits the mentorship, support, and hands-on experiences she received in Iowa State’s Department of Horticulture for helping shape her career.

A student-athlete on the women’s soccer team, Adamek was also actively involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as social media chair for the Turfgrass Club. These experiences, along with valuable internship opportunities, helped her develop technical expertise, leadership skills, and a professional network that continues to support her success in the turfgrass industry.

Adamek highlights the lasting impact of mentor Barb Clawson, whose guidance helped launch her professional journey. Following graduation, she accepted a position with the Kansas City Current of the National Women’s Soccer League, where she gained experience that strengthened her confidence, resilience, and independence. Today, she continues to build her career in sports turf management at one of the nation’s premier sports venues.

Reflecting on her experience, Adamek encourages students to “get comfortable being uncomfortable,” emphasizing that growth often comes from embracing challenges and new opportunities.
