ALUM OF THE MONTH: MICHAEL GOODER, OWNER AND OPERATOR OF PLANTPEDDLER INC.

Michael Gooder graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Horticulture with a Turf & Ag Business emphasis in May of 1980. Michael is from Cresco, IA.

Michael’s major job responsibilities include being the President and CEO. He is responsible for leading and administration of the company including: Vision for the future, forward planning, financial goals, sales, marketing, production goals, add-in project management, diagnostician of pest and disease, breeder relations and product sourcing, broker relations and contracts, advocate for industry boards, speaking engagements and write, and whatever comes across my desk. Head dreamer, head worrier, head cheerleader, and he still usually vacuums his own office.

We asked Michael what he likes most about his job. “Everything; especially building relationships, my passion for plants, and solving problems.”

Following is the advice Michael offers to current students: Be passionate about the career you pursue. If you don’t wake up in the morning excited to go to work and do your job find something that inspires you.  There will always be challenging times in any business, but if you are driven with a passion for what you do, you will find a way to overcome the challenges and be successful.
