Introduction Nick E. Christians , David D. Minner, and Shui-Zhang Fei The following research report is the 23nd yearly publication of the results of turfgrass research projects performed at Iowa State University. This is the sixth year that the entire report is available on the Internet. This report and the previous years' reports can be accessed at:

Several new projects were started in the 2001 season. Many of these are part of Dr. Fei's breeding related work. They include Round-up ready bentgrasses, perennial ryegrass cold hardiness screening trials, and Poa species phylogenetic studies. Dr. Fei also established a new Tall Fescue turfgrass evaluation trial in the fall of 2001.
