Current Research

  1. Characterization Study of BEL genes in non-tuber bearing (NTB) species of potatoes to better understand their function.
Over-expression of BEL genes in tuber-bearing species of potatoes gives an increased tuberization phenotype. The BEL genes are present in NTB species of potatoes, but what processes are these genes involved in?

Future Research

  1. Transformation Study utilizing plasmids with removable antibiotic markers.
  2. PhotoPeriod mutant Study: Is enhanced tuber formation in Phytochrome B anti-sense mutants mediated by StBEL5 expression and/or movement?
