Research Focus

Dr. Nonnecke's area of research is in small fruit crops (berry crops). Primary emphasis is in an applied program to develop new approaches in sustainable small fruit systems with potential benefit to producers, consumers and the environment.

Teaching/Advising Responsibilities

Dr. Nonnecke's teaching responsibilities include serving as the instructor of Principles of Horticulture (Hort. 221, spring semester), Fruit and Nut Crop Production (Hort. 461), and Sustainable and Environmental Horticulture Systems (Hort. 424/Hort 524). She also instructs about fruit crops in Survey of Horticultural Crops (Hort 222), and co-teaches Integration of Tropical Crops (Hort./PlP/Ent 511). Dr. Nonnecke serves as an undergraduate advisor for students in the fruit and vegetable production and management option and for students in other options as needed. She also serves on the university-wide Academic Advisory Committee (co-chair) and the Learning Community Advisory Committee (Curriculum subcommittee, co-chair).

Extension Program

Dr. Nonnecke interacts with commercial fruit and vegetable growers through annual conferences, trade shows, and field days. She also conducts demonstrations on Iowa growers' fruit farms. Dr. Nonnecke assists the state, regional and county extension specialists as requested with technical information, diagnosis, and event planning.
